What is the PTO Value Calculator?
The PTO Value Calculator translates paid time off into total hours, day equivalents, and an estimated compensation value. Salary mode derives an hourly value from annual salary and scheduled workdays; hourly mode uses the rate entered directly.
It helps compare leave packages or understand the allocated value of time away without claiming that PTO must be paid out as cash.
PTO Value Calculator Formula
PTO value = (PTO days × hours/day + extra PTO hours) × hourly value
Salary-mode hourly value = annual salary ÷ (workdays/year × hours/day). Hourly mode uses the entered hourly rate.
Compensation mode
Chooses derived salary value or a direct hourly rate.
PTO quantity
Days converted to hours plus additional hours.
Work schedule
Sets salary-mode annual hours and day equivalence.
Worked Example
A salaried worker earns $62,400.00 over 260 eight-hour workdays and has 12 PTO days plus 4 hours.
- 1
Derived hourly value
$62,400.00 ÷ (260 × 8) = $30.00
- 2
Total PTO hours
12 × 8 + 4 = 100 hours
- 3
Allocated value
100 × $30.00 = $3,000.00
Result
The PTO allocation represents 100 hours, or 12.5 workdays, with an estimated compensation value of $3,000.00.
When This Calculator Helps
- Comparing leave allocations in two offers.
- Converting a mixed days-and-hours balance.
- Estimating the salary value assigned to paid leave.
How to Interpret Your Result
For salaried workers, this value is generally part of annual compensation, not extra cash to add again.
A payout may follow different policy or legal rules, so allocated value is not a payout guarantee.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Adding salary-mode PTO value on top of annual salary.
- Using calendar days instead of scheduled workdays.
- Assuming unused PTO is always paid out.
Questions About This Calculation
Is PTO value extra salary?
Usually not. In salary mode it allocates part of existing annual compensation to PTO hours.
Can I combine PTO days and hours?
Yes. The calculator converts days using hours per day and adds extra hours.
Does this determine payout rights?
No. Entitlement and payout depend on applicable terms and rules.
